Following the success of Leeds Safeguarding Week 2024, Leeds Safeguarding Adults Board has again teamed up with Leeds Safeguarding Children's Partnership and Safer Leeds to offer two weeks of free training and learning events. 17 to 21 November is also Safeguarding Adults Week, a campaign hosted by Ann Craft Trust, so we've included details of their events.

Free online seminar for Safeguarding Adults Week from Ara Recovery For All, which provides education, training and treatment services for gambling related harm. This one-hour condensed training workshop will focus on the key elements of tackling gambling harms and is appropriate for professionals in any public facing role.

Ara Recovery For All provides education, training and treatment services for gambling related harms. They support people across Wales and the South West as a proud regional partner of the National Gambling Support Network.

It explores key issues around online abuse, digital safeguarding, and how to identify and respond to cyber threats. As part of Safeguarding Adults Week, Ann Craft Trust's Safeguarding Adults Manager Laura Thorpe discusses how we can start conversations about sexuality and relationships to prevent misunderstanding and vulnerability.

During this free online seminar we will explore attitudes to sexuality and personal relationships and ensure professionals have a consistent approach to promoting the rights of those they support to be sexual beings.

Free webinar hosted by Leeds Safeguarding Adults Board and West Yorkshire Financial Exploitation and Abuse Team

WYFEAT offers a comprehensive training session designed to help you understand and address financial abuse and exploitation. This session delves into how financial abuse is covered under The Care Act 2014 and provides practical measures to safeguard service users from scams and doorstep crime. It includes real case studies from victims in West Yorkshire to illustrate the team's work and emphasizes the importance of changing the stigma associated with being scammed.

This session also explains the role of WYFEAT, the referral process, and the support available to victims.

Dr Rachael Clawson, Associate Professor at the Director of the Centre for Social Work at The University of Nottingham School of Sociology and Social Policy, will discuss the forced marriage of people with learning disabilities.

This session will explore how to apply the Mental Capacity Act 2005 through a human rights lens, focusing on how to uphold and balance the rights of individuals who may lack capacity. We will examine key principles of the Act alongside the Human Rights Act, looking at real-world scenarios to understand how to manage situations where rights may appear to be in conflict, such as autonomy versus protection. The session aims to build confidence in making legally and ethically sound decisions that respect dignity, freedom, and equality.

This is an awareness session for staff who work with children and their families, hosted by Leeds Safeguarding Children Partnership

There is an increasing number of professionals sharing concerns of FII or PP with safeguarding professionals in health. This session will help practitioners to develop an awareness of the complexities of FII/PP and MUS.  It is a session for staff who work with children and their families,  to help them to recognise the indicators and raise concerns appropriately. 

This training is being offered in response practitioner requests for further guidance on responding to concerns of Fabricated or Induced Illness.

Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences are led by the Front Door Safeguarding Hub to address the needs of high-risk victims of Domestic Violence and Abuse. Any frontline staff working closely with high risk clients can refer a case for consideration to a MARAC meeting.

This brief will take participants through the background and workings of the Leeds MARACs and the Risk Assessment process. This will include:

Hosted by Leeds Safeguarding Children Partnership, this free session will outline the approach education teams in Leeds are taking to support implementation of the measures included in the Children’s Wellbeing and School’s Bill, and how that may impact on all practitioners, as they strive to keep children safe in their daily work. With the introduction of this Bill in 2024, the role of education in multi-agency safeguarding arrangements has been brought into focus. The Bill recognises the vital role schools play, in collaboration with partners across the children’s workforce, in protecting children from abuse, neglect and exploitation. 

The session will:

  • Review progress towards the introduction of  the Bill, and consider its implications for practice
  • Introduce the Leeds Learning Access Service and update on the development of this provision

This training is being offered in response to legislative developments, to ensure practitioners are alert to changes which impact their practice.

The session is suitable for all practitioners working with children, young people and their families.
